Guidelines for people who visited China or regions with possible or confirmed COVID-19 transmission outside of China (in the last 14 days)

If you visited China or a region with possible or confirmed COVID-19 transmission outside of China (in the last 14 days), please follow the guideline below.

  1. For 14 days upon arrival, pay careful attention to fever or any respiratory symptoms (cough, sore throat, etc.) and follow the recommendations for preventing infectious diseases (hand hygiene, coughing etiquette, etc.)
  2. If fever or respiratory symptoms (cough, sore throat, etc.) appear within 14 days, do not go out and first call the KCDC Call center at 1339 or area code+120. The service is also available in languages other than Korea.
  3. In accordance with the instructions of the KCDC Call Center, you must wear a mask and visit a COVID-19 screening center. Please inform your travel history to the medical staff.
  4. The KCDC Call Center can inform you on the nearest screening clinic. Korean speakers can easily check the location of screening clinics on the COVID-19 official website (http://ncov.mohw.go.kr). You can also use Kakao Map, Tmap, etc. to locate the nearest screening center by searching screening center.

Information on Special Entry Procedure

The Korean government introduced a special entry procedure applied to all passengers entering Korea from mainland China, starting from February 4, 2020. The procedure has been expanded on February 12 to include travelers from Hong Kong and Macau.

In accordance with the special entry procedure, all travelers from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau are allowed entry after checking whether they have visited the Hubei province and identifying their contact information and address in Korea. Entry may be denied if they have visited the Hubei Province in the last 14 days or do not have a contact information in Korea.

These travelers are also required to install the Self Diagnosis Mobile App to confirm their contact information and monitor their health status. After installing the app, they should record symptoms(*) everyday on the app for up to 14 days.
(*) Self-diagnosis category: fever (37.5
(Celsius) or higher) or feverish feeling, cough, sore throat, respiratory difficulties or breathlessness

Those who have recorded any symptom should call the KCDC Call Center at 1339. If the app is not installed or self-diagnosis categories are not checked, you may receive a call from the call center. If you fail to receive any calls, measures may be taken to identify your location.

Recommendation to minimize overseas traveling

The Korean government has advised to minimize unnecessary travel to some regions in Asia with confirmed cases, to prevent the inflow and spread of COVID-19. At the same time, the government advises people to follow the recommendations for preventing infectious diseases when travelling.

Please make sure to take precaution when travelling, such as washing hands, wearing masks when visiting highly concentrated places or medical institutions, and avoiding visits to markets selling animals or contact with sick animals. If you develop symptoms after coming back, please report it to a public health center or the KCDC Call Center.

Please be noted that this advice aims to deliver necessary information to ensure safety and protection of the people, and is not related to the Travel Alert System of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs nor a regulatory restriction on travel to these regions.
